The latest chapter in a 20-year partnership with The Hills Shire Council
After more than two decades of working together, we’d like to think Fleetwood Urban is the ‘go-to’ bridge builder for The Hills Shire Council in Sydney’s north-west. We’re just about to complete the design, construct and installation of a new Stirling™ cable-stayed pedestrian and cycle bridge across Smalls Creek at Kellyville, having successfully delivered a similar structure at nearby Beaumont Hills in 2019.
Obviously it’s another great project win for us, making clever use of one of our most popular and cost-effective bridge systems, Stirling™. But, as with most Access projects, it’s also great news for the local community. When it’s complete, the new bridge will open up a whole new section of the area for residents to enjoy by directly connecting Gumnut Close Reserve in North Kellyville to Balfour Avenue in Kellyville. As we see time and again, better access is one of the keys to building better communities.

Having looked back through some of our old project records, Balfour Avenue bridge will be the 20th bridge we’ve delivered for The Hills Shire Council since the start of the millennium. In fact, several have even spanned the very same waterway at Smalls Creek.
Of course, building such a long-term partnership is a tremendous source of achievement and confidence, especially given we know there’s no shortage of competition out there. It’s fantastic to know the proven value, reliability and quality of our Stirling™ bridges – together with the ease and trust The Hills Shire Council has in dealing with our end-to-end DesignExecute2™ delivery process – keeps them coming back time and again. Long may it continue!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to work with it just yet, one of the greatest advantages of an off-the-shelf bridge system like Stirling™ is efficiency. Although a standard product, we did work with both Council and Sydney Water to fine-tune the final design. Work on the foundation piering is about to begin at Balfour Avenue, while the main structural components of the bridge have already been manufactured at our state-of-the-art facility at Wetherill Park in Sydney. The entire project is expected to be completed in the next couple of months. Stay tuned for an update soon…
