Keeping it Clean

Fleetwood rolls up its sleeves For Clean Up Australia 2020

Since it was founded in 1990 by the late yachtsman, Ian Kiernan AO, millions of Australians have donated their personal time towards Clean Up Australia activities. Over the past 30 years many of our own team members have taken part. But in 2020 we thought we’d take things up a notch, with a team of eight Fleetwood volunteers descending on nearby Lizard Log Park last Tuesday for Clean Up Australia 2020.

It was a great afternoon for everyone involved, filled with cleaning, rummaging and, of course, lots of smiles. To add a bit of competition to the mix, we set a prize for the person who collected the most rubbish. By the end we’d filled ten 5kg bags of rubbish from the park, with the top collector award going to Project Manager James Patel.

When asked about why he wanted to be involved, James summed it up perfectly. “Everything we do at Fleetwood is focused on creating structures that inspire people to love the outdoors,” he said. “Getting together to keep some of the structures in our own backyard beautiful just makes sense – especially for Clean Up Australia Day. After all, the cleaner our playgrounds and parklands are kept, the more local residents and families will want to use them.”

Close to our home – and heart.

Lizard Log Park is part of the sweeping Western Sydney Parklands, not far from our Sydney head offices at Wetherill Park. It’s also a place very close to our heart, as we were chosen to build a pedestrian bridge and several of the picnic shelters there in 2014. Created with landscape architects CHROFI for the Western Sydney Parklands Trust, we’re delighted to report Lizard Log Park remains one of the region’s most popular picnic areas, with its public BBQs, grassed areas and adventure playground filled with play and laughter seven days a week. All sparkling clean, no doubt.
